Factory Network
Mitsubishi Electric Nagoya Works

A factory network system has been introduced at Mitsubishi Electric’s Nagoya Works, aiming at "loss-free" optimal production directly connected to the factory. The system is an integrated FA solution that uses IT technology to achieve total production control.

Hardware interfaces are integrated through the open field network CC-Link. At the same time, EZSocket communications middleware is utilized to collect data from the Mitsubishi CNCs and PLCs in the facilities in order to understand the circumstances of machining and conveyance equipment and other devices. This means that work processes can be monitored precisely in real time, and data from both hardware and software can be integrated.

A key factor in enhancing equipment utilization is ensuring a speedy recovery if regular maintenance and inspections discover defects or errors in the system. Nagoya Works introduced a remote diagnosis system linked to a call center, which focuses particularly on the maintenance of CNCs.

Through the introduction of the factory network system at Nagoya Works, we aimed at increasing in the equipment utilization ratio as well as a reduction in the production schedule and processing time. We have also achieved effects that cannot be expressed statistically, like improvements in product quality and stability as well as an enhanced awareness among factory employees about production schedules and quality issues.
