Ubiquitous Secure Solution

Consequent to the rapid diffusion of broadband and mobile technology, the network society is preparing to enter an age in which anybody can enjoy the benefit of "anytime/anywhere" network access known as the "Ubiquitous Era". While network society's advancement is rapidly clearing the path toward further convenience, it is also true that threats in security are increasing at a profound rate. In today's world, these issues must be addressed if we are to establish a true social foundation in which anybody has access to a secure network.

Mitsubishi Electric's "Ubiquitous Secure Solution" brings forth a security solution that resolves the vital issues involved in creating a truly ubiquitous environment.

Security product lineup that is indispensable in establishing a secure system environment.

Integrated solution services that encompass areas such as formulation of a security policy, in addition to construction, operation, and monitoring of the security system.

Mitsubishi Electric will approach e-government, corporations and individuals alike through the Ubiquitous Secure Solution while contributing to the bright evolution of a secure network society by delivering a social foundation for the ubiquitous network era.

Networks Advancing Rapidly Toward Ubiquitous
Amplified Security Risk
It is undeniable that security risk continues to amplify in proportion to the network's transformation towards "ubiquitous", but why do such risks increase? The answer to this question lies within the ubiquitous network itself. Below is an introduction to some of those answers.

Expansion of the user environment:
Whether it may be broadband, wireless, or mobile PC, an increasing number of vulnerable spots emerge as the user environment expands, these are the areas that fall victim to attacks.

Diversified threats:
Until now, the main threats toward security were the "hackers" who break into computers out of personal interest, but with networks becoming the foundation of society, con artists, forgers, stalkers, and even a new genre of enemies called cyber terrorists are emerging. From an internal perspective, finding methods to prevent corruption amongst members within a corporation has become another grave issue.

Increased users:
When users save confidential data on externally connected servers, or open unrecognizable email, their carelessness creates additional risk.

Establishing a Law system for Security
Companies that lose social trust because of information leakage, data falsification, or abuse of individual information, must expend a tremendous amount of time, labor and money to recover that lost trust. Forestalling such a situation through implementation of information security measures becomes an absolute imperative.

  Our Initiatives Toward Security
As the paramount element in network security protection, the foremost purpose of encryption technology is to prevent information from leaking to a third party. Mitsubishi Electric possesses the world's highest standard encryption technology, and based on this outstanding technology, supplies superior products and services.

Mitsubishi Electric has been proactively involved in research and development of information security since 1990. In 1994, Mitsubishi Electric became the first in 15 years to succeed in cracking the US encryption system DES. Based on the world's highest algorithm strength evaluation technology, Mitsubishi Electric developed the encryption algorithm, MISTY®. "Multi-platform" acts as a major pillar within the MISTY® design philosophy and in response to the use environment, enables optimization of software and hardware processing balance.

Today, MISTY®'s customized mobile communication technology, KASUMI, has been officially adopted by a collaboration agreement which evaluates the international standard specification for GSM and 3rd generation mobile phones currently being used in Europe, known as the 3GPP. This is the first time in Japan's encryption history that a method developed in Japan has become an international standard, and is indeed a prodigious feat. Furthermore, "MISTY®" and "Camellia", a technology developed jointly with NTT are being proposed as the international standard in areas other than mobile phones, such as ISO, NESSIE (New European Schemes for Signatures, Integrity and Encryption) and CRYPTREC (Cryptography Research & Evaluation Committee). In the case of NESSIE, "MISTY®" and "Camellia" are two of the four algorithms accepted for the symmetric-key cryptography. Based on the high evaluations in international standard technology acquired through MISTY, KASUMI and Camellia, Mitsubishi Electric will continue to deliver security technology to the globally expanding ubiquitous network.
