Symmetric-key Encryption

KASUMI is a symmetric-key encryption algorithm developed in 2000 as the standard encryption algorithm for next-generation W-CDMA mobile communications. It is the only international standard encryption for third-generation W-CDMA mobile communications systems recognized by the international specification standardization project 3GPP.

Based on the Mitsubishi Electric encryption algorithm MISTY, KASUMI is customized for mobile phone systems. Yet it maintains MISTY’s security and characteristics as a multi-platform encryption.

  High reliability
KASUMI was developed by SAGE and by Mitsubishi Electric’s designers of MISTY. Its safety assessments were undertaken by a neutral researcher and its security confirmed.

  Start of soft macro license
Licensing of KASUMI’s soft macro (Verilog-HDL description) has been launched by Mitsubishi Electric. The soft macro eases compatibility with various design processes and facilitates integration with system LSIs.
