Casting Free from Shrinkage PoursCasting Free from Shrinkage Pours

Abstract

Using a newly invented floating-die squeeze casting, parts of the dies are movable, enabling those zones likely to suffer from shrinkage pours to be selectively and automatically compressed. This permits high-quality casting free from casting defects such as shrinkage pours to be produced even with complicated shapes.

Technology Characteristics

  1. Under injection pressure, the cavity can move a little following shrinkage of the melted metal on the way to solidification. This enables several zones of the melted metal likely to suffer from shrinkage pours to be selectively and automatically compressed into a solid.
  2. There is no need to achieve oriented solidification. This enables the gate to be dimensionally as small as the diecast, and makes it easy to cut.
  3. The method is also applicable with the conventional diecast method, where it can greatly reduce defects due to shrinkage pours and blow holes.

Applications

Those products that require high-quality castings

  1. Molding of conductors of squirrel-cage rotors for induction motors
  2. Molding of precision mechanism elements that require air tightness or high levels of strength
