High-precision control of the electrical discharge gap.
Enabling quicker micro-electrical discharge machining.
Overview
The magnetically levitated actuator controls the extremely small electrical discharge gap between workpiece and electrode. We have improved micro-electrical discharge machining speed by finely and quickly controlling the electrical discharge gap with 0.2μm precision to preserve the optimal electrical discharge condition.
Technology Point
Using the magnetically levitated actuator system, we have realized an industry-leading 500Hz response -- over 10 times better than the conventional electrode drive system.
By utilizing a cooperative control of the magnetically levitated actuator and the servo motor with the lead screw in the electrode drive system, we have doubled the machining speed of no-burr, high aspect ratio micro-holes*2, and have reduced electrode wear by 20%.
Through design of the electrode drive unit, controller and power supply, we have enabled simpler configuration of systems that serve their usage objectives.
