The ''Marunouchi Building Management System'' a collaboration of two companies and the new concept of property management.
Like something from a science fiction novel. The original ''intelligent city'' appears in a famous Japanese business district
The Marunouchi area in central Tokyo is a famous historical district know as the first location in Japan for its Western-style office buildings. After WWII, many executives went abroad from this district to do business all over the world and fuel the postwar boom and later to return to their desks in these same buildings to stimulate domestic growth. In 1985, however, age crept up on this district of buildings that had supported the economy. The topic of this article is the renovation of these buildings. This huge project gave Japanese the word ''renewal,'' the repair, renovation and rejuvenation of buildings, and introduced the concepts of multi-building management, remote management, and communications-network maintenance. Allvery much key functions of a now commonplace ''intelligent city.''
