Three-Lens Projector Brings
High Quality Picture to Big Screens
LVP-2000 Projector
The goal: To manufacture a superior projector capable of reproducing high-quality images at a screen size of 200 inches.
The development of a flagship model worthy of the name Big Screen Mitsubishi began in 1985. What resulted was the LVP-2000. The desired image size made using the common 7-inch cathode-ray tube (CRT) was out of the question in developing the LVP-2000. Instead, it was decided to use 13-inch CRTs and to design a special, large-diameter, 20 cm lens.
The greatest hurdle for the development team was the massive heat generated by the optics system. That too was overcome, with the development of a liquid cooling system that used a silicon gel to cool the space between the CRTs and the lens. This, however, required the development of a damper mechanism to handle the expansion and the contraction of the silicon gel. The finished optics system was a masterpiece in itself, with optical coupling that enabled the reproduction of high-contrast images.
