Tokyo Tower Elevators and Other Innovations

Building on a series of technological advances made since 1952, Mitsubishi Electric's elevator and escalator division grew steadily throughout the 1950s, and by the end of the decade had established the company as Japan's foremost elevator manufacturer.

In 1958, Mitsubishi Electric delivered six elevators to the newly built Tokyo Tower. The 333 meter tall tower has an observation deck at 120 meters, an antenna-maintenance deck at 223 meters, a basement floor under the tower legs and a science museum on the fifth floor. Three elevators serve the observation deck, two elevators the museum and one elevator the antenna-maintenance deck.
