Introducing the Center-fold Body to the World
A Powerful Motor - The Efforts of Mitsubishi Electric's Developers
Why did the TC-1100 achieve such a remarkable record of sales? The first reason was its feature. It had a light, compact body and was the world's first center-fold product package. Although it is a common feature today, at that time, the introduction of a vacuum cleaner that allowed the removal of collected waste effortlessly and without dirtying his/her hands was considered an extremely revolutionary invention. The suction force, the fundamental characteristic for determining vacuum cleaner performance, was also extremely powerful. The industry standard for vacuum motors at that time operated at speeds of approximately 15,000 rpm. Although development took two years, followed by evolutionary improvements in miniaturization and power technology, Mitsubishi Electric was able to develop a motor with motor speeds that achieved 21,000 rpm. Indeed a special motor, it helped build a Mitsubishi Electric brand synonymous for reliable performance technologies and products.
