The first satellite TV broadcast between the US and Japan occurred in 1963. Since then technology has evolved so that we are able to receive close to real-time images of football games or natural disasters on the other side of the world. Incidents happening ''live'' in distant countries. Many international TV broadcasts are carried by satellite communication. The satellite, however, is only a small function to communicating broadcasts. The transmitting and receiving signals from earth is done through earth stations.
