Escalators that go from point A to B, in a curve. The world's first and only, spiral escalator.
From straight to spiral
The escalator was first introduced at the Paris Exposition of 1900. Since then, it has taken on different shapes and forms throughout the ages. , However, it was the many attempts to make an escalator run in a spiral, that always ended in failure. It was fairly easy to build the rising portion of the spiral, however the problem lay at the junction where the ascending portion flattened out. The curve would have a tendency to keep twisting out. To astonishment of the world, it was in 1984 that Mitsubishi Electric' solved the problem and introduced the world's first spiral escalator.
