HOW IT WORKS

The heart of COCO-DATES is the COCO-DATES Center. The Center issues a special GPS-equipped terminal with QR code printer to registered clients, such as food producers and distributors.

When the client prints a label to affix to a product, the terminal pings the COCO-DATES Center, automatically inputting GPS and other basic data into the Center's database to authenticate location and producer. The Center also gathers and stores the basic cloud cover data from a national weather satellite system to authenticate time.

At any point along the distribution chain, including the retail outlet, anyone with a mobile phone equipped with a QR scanner can scan the COCO-DATES label and receive automatic verification on the spot of time and location of origin, along with information about the producer.

The labels also have basic information that can be input into a COCO-DATES Center website for verification via a PC terminal.
