Focusing on higher security, Mitsubishi Electric used the valuable
experience gained from deciphering DES, to surge ahead
and develop an ideal encryption algorithm. Matsui acted
as a central figure in the development of a new algorithm
using a 128-bit key, and established the "Information
Security System Development Center". “MISTY”,
the new encryption algorithm with optimum security was
introduced in 1995.
"MISTY" has been adopted by a wide array of
information systems and products, and has been the focus
for encryption of third generation mobile phones. Based
on “MISTY” technology, “KASUMI”,
an international standard encryption for mobile phones
was born in the year 2000. |
