For Making the Compact
Sized and Light Weighed Converter for Railway Propulsion into Reality,
2.5kV/3.3kV HVIGBT Modules for the Second Generation Is Now Available on the Market
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has
developed a second generation of 2.5 kV/3.3 kV HVIGBT* Modules
for high power industries such as electric traction companies,
power plants, and production plants. The sample shipments will
start as of January, 1998.
With these models, reductions in
the heat emission from the built-in power semiconductor chip (to
the lowest level in the industry) as well as improvements in the
heat conductivity (to the highest level in the industry), have
allowed the number of cooling fins necessary for radiating heat
during current carrying to be reduced and a substantial reduction
of power loss can now be achieved, thereby achieving a compactness
in terms of volume, as well as weight, and simplification of heat
design realized for the railway propulsion and steel rolling,
etc.
