MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC'S DreamaTM
2 PROCESSOR EXTENDS DIGITAL VIDEO PROCESSING WITH MICROCONTROLLER TECHNOLOGY TO FLAT-SCREEN TELEVISION
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- June 11, 2002 --
The Electronic Device Group of Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics
USA, Inc., introduced the Dreama 2 digital video processor, the
latest addition to its industry-leading DreamaTM
family of television ICs. The processor digitizes and processes
video, chroma, and deflection while including a microcontroller
in the same package. The new device incorporates special functions
for NTSC flat-screen televisions, such as embedded circuitry to
correct "East-West" screen distortion and to adjust screen
image outlines using velocity modulation. It also provides a three-line
two-dimensional comb filter for Y/C separation, which reduces noise
for enhanced visual clarity.
"The Dreama 2 processor extends the same digital video processor
with microcontroller technology to flat-screen televisions that
the Dreama 1 processor has provided to regular-screen televisions,"
said George Riehm, senior marketing manager for consumer products
at Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA, Inc. "By giving
customers a totally digital solution to analog video circuits, the
Dreama 2 processor reduces electromagnetic interference while saving
design steps. As a result, customers can bring more reliable flat-screen
televisions to market faster and more cost effectively."
The Dreama 2 processor incorporates four ASIC blocks for front-end
analog, video and chroma, deflection, and back-end analog functions.
Designers can input composite video signals, S video signals, and
component video signals. By incorporating the M37273 8-bit microcontroller
core, the Dreama 2 processor boosts on-board memory capacity to
60 Kbytes of ROM, 2 Kbytes of RAM, and 64 bytes of ROM correction
memory, as well as providing on-screen display (OSD), closed caption
decoder (CCD), and half-tone display functions.
Packaging and Availability
Mitsubishi Electric's Dreama 2 digital video processor IC (M65582MF-XXXFP)
is available in an 80-pin quad flat pack (QFP) package.
The product begins sampling in July 2002, with volume production
scheduled for October 2002.
