To date, the speed of escalators has been limited to that which allows for optimum usability at the boarding and landing zones. Wouldn't it be nice if they actually sped up in the middle?
That's a question we set about answering, and the result has been successful tests of a revolutionary high-speed escalator which is 1.5-times faster than normal speed on the incline.
At the boarding zone, the escalator runs at normal speed so passengers can board easily. As the escalator enters the incline, the step interval extends and the step runs at high speed, causing the escalator to accelerate on the extended section. At the landing zone the step interval returns to normal, allowing riders to disembark safely.
