In an age where date and location of origin of products is becoming more and more critical, Mitsubishi Electric has responded to the need with a clever service called COCO-DATES.
COCO-DATES integrates a variety of satellite and ground-based technologies to accurately determine time and position and support traceability. To authenticate time, the system uses satellite image data of clouds, which change constantly. To authenticate location, GPS satellite data is used.
Producers are issued coded labels, which are used to issue the “Correct Coordinates and Date Stamp” for each product. Consumers can enter the codes into the COCO-DATES system Web site for instant verification of a product's origin. The service will first be available in Japan for use in the food industry. It's also applicable to the verification of documents, accident scenes and much more.
